About Whitney Academy
Founded by George and Sheila Harmon in 1986, Whitney Academy is a unique, year-round residential treatment center. We are nationally recognized for specializing in the treatment of dually diagnosed young men, ages ten to twenty-two, who are developmentally delayed and psychiatrically disordered. Our students exhibit a broad range of sexualized behavior problems, from trauma reactive to sexually abusive. Every aspect of student life at Whitney reflects our care, compassion, and respect for students as individuals—from beautifully appointed community residences to comprehensive clinical, medical, and educational services.
Whitney’s program is highly monitored and staff-secure. Our treatment model ensures community safety and provides evidence-based treatment in what we believe to be the most “normal and homelike” environment possible. We consider the whole person in our treatment approach, addressing each student’s specific needs, sense of belonging, self-esteem, and social skills. The care provided at Whitney extends beyond what many traditional programs of this type offer.
