Our Philosophy
All individuals have the potential for learning, regardless of the type or degree of impairment. At Whitney Academy, we believe that a student’s lack of progress is not viewed as a student failure, but rather as failure of the treatment process.
Students in need of individualized, prolonged assistance require a more intensive and specialized program of skill development to attain their full potential. The Whitney Academy’s program is designed to provide quality treatment and education tailored to these needs. At Whitney, students are treated and taught as unique individuals, with special consideration and respect for their individual differences. They learn skills that give them an opportunity to grow and enable them to become more fully functioning members of society.
The Whitney Academy’s purpose is twofold:
- Providing quality educational, residential, and clinical services to our students.
- Preparing students for successful re-entry into their communities of origin or new communities, utilizing humanistic treatment approaches and environments that foster healthy development.
