Clinical Services

Psychological Services

Upon admission to Whitney Academy, each student is assigned a Whitney Clinician. This Master’s level position not only provides direct clinical services but also supervises and coordinates all case management and therapy functions for their caseload. To ensure the highest quality of care, these clinicians undergo ongoing professional development, including regular training, monthly supervision, and weekly team meetings.

Our Clinicians deliver both individual and group therapy, focusing on small group sizes to tailor support to the cognitive levels and specific needs of each student. This personalized approach is designed to maximize potential growth and learning. Students also participate in a twice-weekly Social Skills group that tackles crucial developmental challenges such as anger management, sexuality, relationships, dating, and preparing for life after Whitney.

Family Services

At Whitney Academy, our Family Support Services are provided by our dedicated Whitney Clinicians. As primary liaisons between Whitney Academy and all involved parties, including families and external service systems, they facilitate consistent communication through phone calls, mail, on-site visits, and, when suitable, off-site and home visits.

Upon a student’s admission, an initial family assessment is conducted by the assigned clinician to understand the family dynamics and needs. Following this assessment, a comprehensive plan is developed to support the family and the student throughout their time at Whitney. This plan typically includes:

  • Education for the family on placement and treatment concerns, helping them understand and navigate the process.
  • Coordination and evaluation of visitation to ensure meaningful family contact.
  • Liaison with other agencies to synchronize services that meet the family’s needs in relation to the student’s treatment.
  • Provision of supportive services to families to assist them during the treatment period.
